In 1987 Metal Gear was created for the MSX computer by konami it was a basic stealth game, having an alert system for being caught and bosses to be defeated. In the United States the first Metal Gear game was released on the NES by konami but not by the same development team the game has completely different story but has many of the same assets this prompeted then writer Hideo Kojima to begin work on Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake released in 1990. The sequal was longer, featured new gameplay mechanics and ability to crawl and avoid enemies you also are able to use the radar and see enemies on it. 9 years would pass before a third game would be made; Metal Gear Solid releaseing in Japan, NA, and EU it recieved universal praise the game had 3D graphics, complete voice acting, FMV, and bonus content the game also retconned much of the lore of the first two, this also started the Solid Saga making a divide between Metal Gear games and Metal Gear Solid games. The success of MGS led to many sequals over the next 2 decades in total 5 (6 if you include Ground Zeroes and 7 with Portable Ops) Metal Gear Solid games came out and 5 standalone Metal Gear games (excluding Portable Ops) The Metal Gear franchise is also in my opinion the best argument for a game franchise of being art.
